On Parties, Parades, and Pumpkin Bread

Hello, everybody! Hope you had a great two weeks. We've gotten up to some pretty fun hijinks since our last blog post. We had our fall party scheduled for the last Friday in October, but then our hot water heater broke and started flooding and long story short, we had to take the day off. So! We had it the following Monday instead. The astronauts teamed up to put together some fall decorations to hang outside our classroom, we watched a Charlie Brown movie, and then...

We made stuffed animals with PAWS, a company that brings the Build-a-Bear experience to your front door. The astronauts had been looking forward to this for quite some time, so it was a huge relief that PAWS was willing to reschedule after our hot water heater tragedy! Thanks to Miss Athena at LTCC for putting the PAWS experience together and letting us participate!

Later on that week, when we weren't busy being hard at work and completely adorable...

See? Adorable.
...we were busy doing some good deeds!

Every year at around this time, the Saco Faith Chapel SDA Church passes out canvas bags throughout the neighborhood for people to fill with non-perishable food items such as canned vegetables and boxes of stuffing. The food we collect is put into boxes for families in need to take home on Thanksgiving.

We also got another visit from our friends Pastor Brenda and Danny (who was feeling a little shy that day). This last Friday, we got some sad news about Danny. He was attacked by a loose pit bull and very badly hurt. Although he'll be okay with time, we should all say a prayer for his speedy recovery.

We decided to elongate our Thanksgiving break by having school on Veterans Day, and we used our day wisely - but learning about how Veterans Day came to be a holiday and going to a parade!

A couple days later, we got our first significant snowfall of the year. It only lasted a few hours, and the kids couldn't go play in it due to its being 100% mud underneath, but it was still pretty to look at!

We made some very belated pumpkin bread that everybody liked (even our pickiest astronaut - score!) and that didn't end up burning in our vicious, finicky oven like almost everything we try baking no matter how we adjust our times and temperatures.

But we're not mad. Nope.

Finally, we finished out our week by finishing out our first tissue box of the year. We all shed a tear at the implications of this tragic event. Okay, just kidding. I shed a tear and all the astronauts mocked me by insisting they were all sporting matching colds.

Even the tissue box was smug.
It's okay, though. Sticks and stones may break my bones, but I have enough tissues and hand sanitizer to last through the winter. And like I said in my last blog post - winter is a comin'.

Hope you guys have a great couple of weeks! This is our last one before our Thanksgiving program and break, which is very exciting. Check back on November 30 for not only a blog post, and not only a blog post and a Month in Review, but a blog post and a Month in Review and a recording of our Thanksgiving program.

The students and I hope you have a fantastic Thanksgiving!

God bless,
Mia
